Role Overview
This position leads a team of Fleet Planners in a fast-paced transport operations environment. The focus is on turning daily transport plans into executed trips by allocating vehicles, coordinating drivers, and resolving disruptions. The role ensures the fleet delivers on customer commitments and operational targets while maintaining compliance and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise Fleet Planners to produce accurate daily plans for vehicle allocation, driver assignment, and dispatch sequencing.
- Monitor live execution of trips, including loading, departure, delivery, and turnaround, and intervene when deviations occur.
- Balance customer priorities, fleet availability, and driver capacity to adjust schedules in real time.
- Work with the Workshop to prioritize vehicle repairs and keep serviceable units ready for planned operations.
- Manage breakdowns, accidents, traffic congestion, and urgent customer requests by activating contingency plans.
- Track performance metrics such as fleet utilization, trip completion, detention, demurrage, and driver productivity, then recommend improvements.
- Ensure all transport documentation, trip records, and compliance paperwork are accurate and submitted on time.
- Coach and mentor planners, set performance expectations, lead operational meetings, and collaborate with customers, depots, and shipping lines to resolve issues.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Solid experience in fleet operations, transport planning, or logistics supervision, with a record of leading a planning team.
- Strong knowledge of transport regulations, safety protocols, and customer service standards relevant to commercial road freight.
- Demonstrated ability to make quick, sound decisions during operational disruptions and shifting priorities.
- Proficiency with transport management systems, route planning tools, and reporting software.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills, with keen attention to detail.
- Resilient and results-driven, comfortable working under pressure and managing multiple stakeholders.
- High ethical standards and integrity when handling operational data and customer information.
- Relevant qualification in logistics, supply chain, or a related field is an advantage.
