Role Overview
The forklift operator is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of materials throughout a manufacturing warehouse, from receiving and storage to production lines and dispatch. This role keeps operations running on schedule by ensuring loads are handled correctly, equipment is well maintained, and inventory records stay accurate. Success in this position directly supports delivery targets, workplace safety, and overall productivity on the shop floor.
Key Responsibilities
- Load and offload warehouse goods and transport materials to different locations within the facility.
- Optimise loads to improve operational efficiency and secure them to machines before transportation.
- Inspect forklifts before operations, complete the required documentation, and schedule trucks for maintenance and repairs.
- Operate and manage other technical equipment such as manual and electric stackers.
- Manage inventory by following established warehouse standards.
- Identify workplace safety hazards and take appropriate measures while adhering to site safety management standards.
- Work to production schedules to meet OTIF targets and follow delivery standards such as FIFO.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least 3 years of forklift operation experience in a busy manufacturing environment.
- Experience in forklift service and maintenance is an added advantage.
- At least a D+ in KCSE.
- Holder of a Forklift Operations and Safety certificate of training from a recognised institution.
- A valid driver’s licence.
- A Certificate in Automotive Engineering is an added advantage.
