Role Overview
This position keeps material moving across the plant floor — retrieving, relocating, and stacking loads so that assembly work never grinds to a halt waiting on a part. Beyond driving the truck, the operator handles the material-handling tasks that surround it: opening incoming CKD crates, checking components for defects, storing stock in its designated locations, and delivering parts to the line in the right sequence at the right time. The role is critical because a single missing or damaged component can stop a shift, which makes safe driving, sharp counting, and fast communication with the team leader and supervisor equally important.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate the forklift safely and efficiently at all times, adhering to site safety regulations and established safe operating practices.
- Carry out the daily pre-shift truck inspection and promptly escalate any maintenance or repair requirement to the appropriate person.
- Maintain clear, continuous communication with colleagues and superiors across different shop floors to keep workflow smooth and operations efficient.
- Open CKD cases in line with the approved unboxing guidelines, and inspect incoming parts, reporting any defect to the team leader.
- Rack and bin parts into the correct material handling equipment, and retrieve replacement components from an authorised parts discrepancy report when items are missing or damaged so assembly can continue.
- Feed parts to the assembly line sequentially and on schedule, responding in real time to logistics-related delays to keep the line running.
- Conduct post-mortems to confirm all parts were consumed, preparing a report where discrepancies are found, and reporting all MMOs and KDQRs to the team leader and supervisor.
- Handle hazardous materials appropriately and take on other general logistics duties or tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Valid forklift operator's licence or certification — Class G.
- Completed secondary-level education.
- At least two years of working experience in warehouse operations.
- Ability to work accurately and methodically, including when the line is under time pressure.
- Comfortable completing paperwork and counting stock with a high degree of accuracy.
- Willingness to step outside pure forklift duties into general logistics support as required.
