Role Overview
Verst Carbon Limited is establishing a talent pool of short-term consultants and field personnel to support the implementation of a nature-based project in Kenya. These are part-time, assignment-based engagements, with individual roles expected to kick off at staggered intervals between September and December 2026. Depending on the specific assignment, professionals will contribute to technical assessments, site-level data collection, community coordination, or quality assurance—helping the project maintain credibility and measurable environmental impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field visits to designated project sites and collect accurate environmental or socio-economic data using standardised protocols.
- Support forest or land-use assessments, including vegetation sampling, biodiversity monitoring, and carbon stock estimation where applicable.
- Facilitate community engagement sessions to communicate project goals and gather local feedback in collaboration with project managers.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of field records, including GPS coordinates, photographic evidence, and structured questionnaires.
- Prepare well-organised technical, progress, or data summary reports for review by the project coordination team.
- Assist in verifying and validating data collected by other field personnel during quality control exercises.
- Coordinate with local stakeholders, landowners, or administrative bodies to secure site access and maintain good working relationships.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in environmental science, forestry, natural resource management, geography, agriculture, or a related field.
- For consultant roles: at least five years of relevant experience in nature-based projects, environmental consultancy, or carbon project development. For field personnel roles: at least two years of practical field experience in a similar capacity.
- Hands-on familiarity with field data collection tools, including handheld GPS units, smartphones, or tablet-based surveying applications.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct systematic field surveys and adhere to strict data quality and safety protocols.
- Excellent written and spoken English; working knowledge of Swahili or other local languages is an added advantage.
- Willingness to travel and work in remote locations across Kenya, often under variable weather conditions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially when engaging with rural communities or non-technical audiences.
