Job Description

Role Overview

As an Occupational Therapist, you will work within a hospital or community-based rehabilitation setting to deliver essential therapy services to patients with physical, developmental, or emotional challenges. Your day-to-day work involves evaluating patient needs, designing treatment plans, guiding therapy sessions, and tracking progress while also supervising therapy assistants and supporting community outreach efforts. This role is central to helping patients regain independence and improve their quality of life through meaningful, purposeful activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise occupational therapy services delivered in outpatient departments, inpatient wards, or community rehabilitation programs.
  • Assess each patient’s functional abilities, limitations, and rehabilitation requirements through interviews, observations, and appropriate evaluation tools.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans that align with patient goals, and adjust these plans as patients progress or their circumstances change.
  • Implement therapeutic activities and interventions that promote motor skills, daily living skills, cognition, and psychosocial well-being.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, including assessment findings, treatment notes, and progress updates, while ensuring confidentiality and data integrity.
  • Monitor and manage departmental supplies, including materials used to create assistive devices and therapeutic products within the occupational therapy section.
  • Collect and organize patient-related data for operational research and service improvement initiatives.
  • Raise awareness within the wider community about occupational therapy services and rehabilitation options, and prepare periodic reports on service delivery and outcomes.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Hold a Diploma in Occupational Therapy or an equivalent qualification approved by the relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Be a registered member of the Kenya Occupational Therapists Association in good standing.
  • Possess a certificate in computer application skills to support record keeping, reporting, and data management.
  • Demonstrate practical knowledge of rehabilitation assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic intervention methods.
  • Show strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Communicate clearly and empathetically with patients, families, and community members from diverse backgrounds.
