Job Description

Role Overview

This Nursing Officer position is central to maintaining a high standard of clinical care and positive patient experiences at a busy outpatient medical centre. Day to day, you will perform initial assessments and triage, deliver maternal and child health/family planning services, manage emergency cases, and administer medications while ensuring all nursing procedures follow evidence-based protocols. Your role directly supports the centre’s commitment to infection prevention, accurate documentation, and seamless team operations, making you a key driver of both safety and patient satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough patient assessments and triage, prioritising care based on urgency and clinical need.
  • Deliver maternal and child health (MCH) and family planning (FP) services, including routine procedures and patient education.
  • Administer intravenous (IV) and intramuscular (IM) medications safely, aligning with nursing best practices and established protocols.
  • Serve as an Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) champion by consistently applying IPC protocols and maintaining a hygienic environment.
  • Keep the medical centre fully stocked and prepared: manage supplies, ensure sterile items are readily available, and restock as needed for both routine and emergency scenarios.
  • Record patient data accurately and in real time using the electronic medical record (EMR) system, and complete Ministry of Health reporting submissions on schedule.
  • Provide clear, compassionate patient education and a consistently excellent client experience throughout every interaction.
  • Collaborate with the nursing officer in charge and branch manager to identify process improvements, implement best practices, and contribute to continuous quality enhancement.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to remain current with clinical advances and Penda’s protocols.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma in Nursing (KRCHN) and a valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a busy healthcare facility.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in maternal and child health (MCH) and family planning (FP) services.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with outstanding patient interaction abilities.
  • Proven ability to use electronic health records and digital health tools effectively.
  • Commitment to ethical and legal standards of healthcare delivery and teamwork.

What We Offer / Why Join

This role provides the opportunity to grow within an evidence-based medical system that values continuous learning. You will benefit from regular professional development activities, work in a collaborative environment where team members support each other, and have the chance to shape clinical processes through continuous improvement initiatives. The position offers meaningful work in a fast-paced outpatient setting where your contributions directly impact patient outcomes and team culture.
