Role Overview

This position is part of a rapidly deployable emergency surge team focused on containing Ebola and other viral haemorrhagic fever outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo and neighbouring at-risk countries. Day-to-day, you will be deployed to outbreak zones for six to eight weeks, where you will work in high-pressure, resource-limited field settings alongside local health authorities and international staff. Your work is critical to stopping transmission chains, providing medical care, and ensuring safe infection prevention and control measures are in place.

Key Responsibilities

• Deploy on short notice to outbreak sites in the DRC and support the set-up and running of Ebola treatment centres or isolation units.
• Deliver direct clinical care – triage, treatment, and case management – to patients suspected or confirmed with viral haemorrhagic fevers.
• Implement strict infection prevention and control protocols, including donning/doffing of personal protective equipment and safe waste disposal.
• Conduct epidemiological surveillance, contact tracing, and community health education to interrupt disease transmission.
• Oversee water, hygiene, and sanitation (WaSH) activities, including chlorination of water points and construction of handwashing stations, where assigned.
• Coordinate with ministry of health teams, MSF logistics, and other humanitarian actors to ensure efficient patient flow and resource use.
• Train and supervise local staff in clinical procedures, IPC measures, and safe burial practices.
• Complete detailed daily reports and handover documents for the incoming rotation team.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Availability: Must be able to deploy within three months for a first rotation of six to eight weeks, followed by a mandatory 21-day post-deployment monitoring period.
• Language: Full professional fluency in both French and English (oral and written).
• Visa & Travel: Must hold a valid Schengen visa, Schengen area residence permit, or a passport that does not require a Schengen visa to travel to Europe (this is required for the post-deployment monitoring period).
• Experience – Ebola Response: Prior direct experience working in an Ebola outbreak response (for those applying to the Ebola-specific pool).
• Experience – Other Emergency Response: Extensive professional experience in viral haemorrhagic fever outbreaks, disease outbreak control, or other high-risk humanitarian emergency settings (for non-Ebola profiles).
• Competencies: Proven ability to adapt rapidly to evolving field conditions, remain resilient under stress, work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, and operate in remote, resource-constrained environments.
• Profiles sought: Medical doctors, nurses, paramedics, and WaSH (Water, Hygiene, and Sanitation) specialists are a priority.
