Medical Officer, Outreach Clinic

Role Overview

As a Medical Officer, you will be the frontline clinician responsible for delivering comprehensive, evidence-based care to patients within a clinic setting that is part of a larger hospital network. Your day-to-day work involves assessing, diagnosing, and managing a diverse caseload of acute and chronic conditions, while coordinating with specialists and hospital teams to ensure seamless patient journeys. This role is critical to maintaining high clinical standards, patient safety, and efficient resource use across the clinic.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough clinical evaluations by taking detailed case histories, performing physical examinations, and ordering appropriate laboratory and radiology investigations in line with evidence-based guidelines and established protocols.
• Regularly monitor the progress of patients with acute and chronic illnesses, adjusting treatment plans as their conditions change.
• Engage patients and their caregivers in clear discussions about diagnoses, treatment options, and ongoing care to support informed decision-making.
• Perform authorised emergency medical and surgical procedures when necessary to stabilise patients and save lives.
• Provide preventive health services, including evidence-based screenings, wellness examinations, risk assessments, early detection, and education on illness prevention.
• Consult promptly with relevant specialists and departments to determine the best management plans for complex cases, and coordinate with clinic leadership and the main hospital to ensure smooth, efficient referrals.
• Collaborate closely with clinical and non-clinical colleagues to deliver patient-centred, coordinated care that reduces errors and waste, while actively participating in clinic quality improvement initiatives alongside management and the Quality and Patient Safety team.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or an equivalent medical degree.
• Successful completion of at least a one-year post-graduate internship.
• Current registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
• Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certificate.
• Demonstrated clinical skills in patient assessment, emergency procedures, and evidence-based practice, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
