Job Description

Role Overview

Working as a hospital-based physician, you will be responsible for the full cycle of patient care—from initial assessment through discharge—across both general wards and the Intensive Care Unit. Every shift involves diagnosing acute and chronic conditions, making quick decisions during emergencies, and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality outcomes. Your clinical judgement and ability to mentor junior staff directly supports patient safety and the hospital’s reputation for reliable, compassionate medicine.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out detailed patient evaluations, ordering and interpreting lab work, imaging, and other diagnostics to form accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Manage ICU patients including ventilator support, central line monitoring, and rapid response to deteriorating vital signs.
  • Prescribe medications and adjust dosages based on patient response, side effects, and clinical guidelines.
  • Perform minor bedside procedures such as suturing, lumbar punctures, chest tube insertion, and wound care within your scope.
  • Lead or participate in daily ward rounds, documenting progress notes and updating care plans in real time.
  • Discharge patients with clear follow-up instructions, coordinating referrals to specialists or outpatient services when needed.
  • Educate patients and families on disease management, medication adherence, and lifestyle changes to prevent readmission.
  • Supervise interns, clinical officers, and nurses during procedures and case discussions, providing constructive feedback to build team competency.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • MBChB (or equivalent medical degree) from an accredited university with full registration and a current practicing license from the relevant medical board.
  • Minimum three years of hands-on clinical experience, including at least two years spent working in an intensive care unit.
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage critically ill patients, interpret hemodynamic monitoring, and make time-sensitive clinical decisions.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records and clear, concise documentation practices.
  • Strong communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration and patient education.
