Role Overview

This position owns the operational backbone of a hospital or healthcare facility — keeping clinical and support services running smoothly while budgets, staffing, patient flow and regulatory obligations stay under control. The person in this seat works across departments rather than inside a single one, translating strategic goals set by senior leadership into daily operational decisions that protect patient safety, service quality and financial performance. Success here means fewer bottlenecks, cleaner accreditation results, and a workforce that knows who to turn to when priorities collide.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct day-to-day operations across clinical units, diagnostic services and non-clinical support functions, resolving scheduling, capacity and patient-flow issues as they arise.
• Build, monitor and report on annual operating and capital budgets; track revenue performance, control expenditure and explain variances to senior management.
• Prepare the organisation for accreditation surveys, regulatory inspections and internal audits by maintaining current policies, documentation and staff readiness.
• Set and monitor service-quality and patient-experience targets, using patient feedback, incident data and operational metrics to drive corrective action.
• Recruit, coach, appraise and develop department heads and administrative staff, handling performance concerns and succession planning for critical roles.
• Lead operational planning and strategic initiatives such as service-line expansion, process redesign, capacity planning or facility improvement projects.
• Act as the coordination point between medical staff, nursing leadership, administration and external partners, vendors or regulators.
• Analyse operational data — occupancy, turnaround times, utilisation and staffing levels — and present findings and recommendations to executive leadership.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Management, Medicine, Clinical Medicine, Nursing, Business Administration or a closely related discipline.
• A minimum of 4 years working in hospital or healthcare management, with exposure to operational rather than purely administrative responsibilities.
• Solid grasp of healthcare regulations, accreditation standards and the practical realities of running hospital operations.
• Proven strategic planning and execution capability, paired with hands-on financial and budget management and confident decision-making under pressure.
• Demonstrated leadership and people-management skills, including performance management and team development.
• Strong communication, coordination and stakeholder-management abilities across clinical and non-clinical audiences.
• Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn operational and financial data into usable reporting.
• Comfort managing multiple competing operational priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
