Mechanical Technician

Reporting & Context

Direct Line Reporting: Maintenance Workshop Supervisor

Industry Sector: Manufacturing

Location: Ruiru

Gross Salary Structure: Kshs. 35,000 - 50,000

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly disciplined, safety-oriented Mechanical Technician to anchor the mechanical integrity, operational reliability, and preventative servicing framework of our industrial manufacturing plant. Your primary objective is to maximize production uptime by executing meticulous pre-planned asset servicing, configuring heavy industrial machinery, and conducting deep diagnostic repairs during active process faults. This position bridges high-precision shop-floor assembly with structural engineering troubleshooting; you will guide factory machinery from initial installation and structural calibration through to detailed component overhauls and fault-root analyses. The role demands an agile, analytical field professional who can interpret intricate technical schematics fluidly while operating safely inside a high-output, target-driven plant environment.

Key Responsibilities

Preventative Overhauls & Planned Asset Care

  • Conduct systematic preventative maintenance checklists across high-capacity production lines, conveyor tracking systems, and auxiliary plant utilities.
  • Manage industrial lubrication schedules, shaft balances, system alignments, and precise calibration parameters to halt premature bearing degradation.
  • Support senior engineering teams during the structural layout, initial mounting, electrical-mechanical integration, and active commissioning of fresh plant machinery.
  • Audit structural components continuously to flag hidden metal fatigue, hydraulic micro-leaks, or localized thermal rises before failure points occur.

Advanced Diagnostics & Rapid Fault Repair

  • Investigate mechanical system breakdowns under high-pressure parameters, isolating internal root-cause faults logically to apply robust structural fixes.
  • Strip down, re-machine, or replace defective drive gears, pneumatic cylinders, structural couplings, high-pressure pump seals, and link assemblies.
  • Deploy emergency breakdown remediation patterns swiftly, safely compressing asset recovery windows to secure daily processing targets.
  • Run rigorous diagnostic tracking and testing cycles on overhauled factory stations, verifying operational load limits prior to production re-entry.

Instrumentation Logging & Asset Analytics

  • Formulate and catalog exhaustive maintenance event profiles, documenting precise replacement part metrics, component lifetimes, and technician hours.
  • Track processing station performance patterns and breakdown trends, translating recurring anomalies into actionable engineering upgrades.
  • Input detailed diagnostic metrics inside internal maintenance management files, ensuring structural clarity across rolling team shift transitions.
  • Maintain an orderly spare parts repository, checking active material bins to ensure essential hardware components remain fully stocked.

Safety Frameworks & Workshop Compliance

  • Execute all maintenance activities under absolute compliance with national industrial safety parameters and factory-floor risk controls.
  • Operate specialized fabrication tools, high-torque instruments, lifting hoists, and diagnostic meters with high precision and personal safety care.
  • Enforce flawless housekeeping structures across active repair cells, keeping tracking paths clean and isolating hazard points instantly.

Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum Entry Criteria

  • Education: Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Maintenance Plant Technology, Industrial Engineering, or a matching technical discipline from a recognized institution.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of progressive, hands-on performance operating as a maintenance fitter or technician inside a high-volume manufacturing yard or busy heavy-industry plant.
  • Schematic Literacy: Confident ability to read, decipher, and implement blueprints from complex mechanical blueprints, structural exploded diagrams, and technical operation manuals.
  • Process Acuity: Practical grounding in automated processing paths, fluid power mechanics, industrial gear ratios, and fundamental preventative servicing structures.

Practical Capacities

  • Diagnostic Intellect: Sharp analytical mind focused on running clear root-cause traces rather than treating immediate mechanical symptoms.
  • Physical Resilience: Robust physical stamina with the structural capability to navigate tight factory crawl spaces, carry heavy tooling arrays, and complete long shifts smoothly.
  • Deadline Adaptability: Exceptional time-management capabilities to clear complex machine overhauls inside narrow maintenance windows under pressure.

Benefits & Environment

  • Technical Exposure: Command a diverse array of advanced high-velocity automated packing gear, pneumatic assemblies, and processing equipment.
  • Professional Up-skilling: Sharpen your practical industrial engineering capacities via access to advanced on-site diagnostic modules and structural plant trials.
  • Career Velocity: Fast-track your mechanical engineering profile, advancing toward Senior Maintenance Line Supervisor and Plant Asset Manager pathways.
