Role Overview

This leadership position directs the complete portfolio of allied health and outpatient services across a multi-site care network, covering pharmacy, medical laboratory, radiology, dental, and optometry. Day to day, you will coordinate department leads, remove operational roadblocks, monitor clinical performance, and guide continuous improvement efforts that keep patient care safe, accessible, and efficient. Your decisions directly shape the network’s ability to meet financial targets, maintain accreditation, and deliver a consistently positive experience for every patient who walks through the door.

Key Responsibilities

• Set the strategic direction for allied health services, translating organisational goals into actionable plans for each clinical department and support function.
• Direct daily clinic operations, ensuring patient flow is smooth, staffing levels match demand, and service delivery meets agreed performance indicators.
• Establish and oversee quality improvement and patient safety programmes, including incident review, clinical audits, and patient satisfaction monitoring.
• Ensure all facilities and practitioners comply with national healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, internal policies, and current clinical best practices.
• Lead health information management, including medical coding accuracy, central file operations, and data integrity, so that records are complete, secure, and legally compliant.
• Coordinate inventory control with procurement and clinical teams to prevent stockouts of essential supplies, reagents, medications, and imaging consumables.
• Build and mentor a multidisciplinary workforce, handling recruitment, performance reviews, professional development pathways, and succession planning.
• Analyse service utilisation and financial data to identify trends, reduce waste, and guide decisions on resource allocation, budgeting, and future capital investments.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, medical laboratory science, radiology, or a related allied health field, or a business degree with substantial experience in allied health service management.
• Master’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or a closely related discipline.
• Minimum eight years of progressive experience in healthcare management, with at least three years in a senior leadership role overseeing multiple departments or service lines.
• In-depth knowledge of clinical governance, regulatory compliance, and accreditation requirements relevant to laboratory, pharmacy, imaging, and dental services.
• Strong financial acumen, including experience managing departmental budgets, productivity metrics, and cost-containment initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage complex stakeholder relationships, and drive change across both clinical and administrative functions.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with a track record of using data to improve service quality and operational efficiency.
