Role Overview
This driving position sits within a busy Nairobi-based operation and is central to keeping equipment, supplies, and materials moving between sites without delay. Day to day you will be responsible for the safe operation of company vehicles, on-time deliveries, and hands-on support with loading and unloading, while also helping to maintain records and vehicle condition so that the wider team can rely on smooth logistics.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate company vehicles for scheduled deliveries and ad hoc transport requests, strictly observing traffic laws, road signs, and internal safety policies.
- Transport equipment, materials, and supplies to specified locations within Nairobi and surrounding areas, ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Assist with loading and securing goods before departure and carefully offload them on arrival, checking quantities and condition against accompanying documentation.
- Inspect items at dispatch and upon their return to confirm nothing is missing, damaged, or incorrectly handled.
- Carry out routine vehicle checks, including tyres, brakes, fluid levels, lights, and overall roadworthiness, and promptly report any faults or maintenance concerns.
- Keep the assigned vehicle clean, organised, and ready for use at all times.
- Maintain accurate, simple records covering trips, fuel usage, deliveries, and vehicle condition as required by the company.
- Immediately notify supervisors of accidents, breakdowns, security incidents, traffic delays, or any other issue that could affect operations.
- Support the broader team with occasional logistical duties that fall within the scope of the role.
Requirements & Qualifications
- KCSE Certificate or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- A minimum of five years of driving experience, with commercial or delivery driving strongly preferred.
- A valid driving licence covering the appropriate vehicle class for the company fleet.
- A clean driving record with no serious violations or pending cases.
- Practical knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and the ability to identify common mechanical or electrical faults early.
- Excellent knowledge of Nairobi and the surrounding areas, including major highways, alternative routes, and known traffic congestion points.
- Defensive driving certification is an added advantage.
- NYS training or equivalent discipline-oriented programme is an added advantage.
- Reliability and trustworthiness, with a strong record of punctuality and responsible behaviour.
- Sound communication skills, the ability to follow instructions, and the confidence to work with minimal supervision.
- Physical fitness sufficient to lift and move goods when required, as well as composure to remain calm and professional under pressure.
- Flexibility and willingness to take on additional tasks as the operational needs of the role change.
