Laundry Attendant

Role Overview

As a Laundry and Linen Attendant, you will be responsible for the full cycle of institutional laundry work: collecting soiled linens and uniforms, processing them through washing, drying, ironing, and folding, and then issuing clean, ready-to-use items to students and staff. This role is essential to maintaining a smooth daily operation, ensuring that every piece of fabric meets strict standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and durability before it is returned to service.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate industrial washing machines, dryers, and pressing equipment to process table linen and staff uniforms according to established procedures.
• Inspect all cleaned laundry for stains, damage, or incomplete processing, and set aside any items that do not meet quality standards.
• Receive and assess incoming used or dirty linen, verifying quantity and noting any visible defects or excessive wear before processing.
• Handle linen and uniform requests from students and staff, issuing the correct type and amount of items in line with documented protocols.
• Maintain accurate logs and records of all linen issued, collected, and processed to support accountability and inventory control.
• Keep the laundry area clean, organized, and hygienic at all times, including proper storage of detergents, chemicals, and cleaning supplies.
• Monitor equipment performance and promptly report breakdowns, faults, damaged linen, or missing items to the supervisor in charge.
• Follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines during laundry operations to protect yourself, your colleagues, and the end users of the linen.

Requirements & Qualifications

• At least a Diploma, Certificate, or Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or equivalent academic qualification.
• A minimum of one year of hands-on experience in a similar laundry or linen management role.
• Familiarity with the safe operation of commercial laundry machinery and the correct use of detergents and stain-removal agents.
• Ability to inspect fabrics carefully and spot signs of damage, wear, or insufficient cleaning.
• Good record-keeping skills to track linen volumes and maintain orderly logs.
• Strong attention to hygiene and workplace safety standards.
• A customer-service mindset with the ability to interact politely and efficiently with students and staff.
