Role Mandate

We are seeking a technically skilled and disciplined Landscaping Supervisor to oversee the outdoor environment of our educational institution in Ongata Rongai. The primary objective of this role is to ensure that the campus grounds remain clean, safe, and aesthetically inspiring for students, staff, and visitors. You will be responsible for the end-to-end management of the gardening team, from daily task allocation to the strategic planning of seasonal planting and irrigation. This position requires a leader who understands both the art of landscape design and the science of horticulture, ensuring that plant health is maintained while resources are used efficiently.

Functional Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Workflow Coordination

• Supervise the daily activities of gardeners across various campus zones, ensuring fair duty allocation and high productivity.

• Conduct regular inspections to verify that work meets the institution's high standards of cleanliness and aesthetic appeal.

• Provide on-the-job training and guidance to the team, fostering a culture of discipline and professional growth.

• Assist the Head of Department (H.O.D.) in evaluating team performance and identifying specific training needs.

Horticultural Operations & Planning

• Develop and implement seasonal schedules for planting, pruning, soil preparation, and lawn maintenance.

• Oversee the health of all flora, ensuring timely interventions for pest and disease control.

• Manage complex irrigation systems, focusing on efficient water usage and the sustainability of campus greenery.

• Support the planning and execution of new landscape improvement projects and campus beautification initiatives.

Resource & Equipment Management

• Maintain accurate inventory records for all gardening tools, machinery, fertilizers, and pesticides.

• Coordinate the repair and maintenance of landscaping equipment, ensuring all tools are in optimal working condition.

• Prepare material requisitions for necessary supplies and ensure the safe storage and application of chemical treatments.

• Train staff on the safe operation of specialized machinery and the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Safety & Administrative Oversight

• Enforce strict compliance with Health & Safety regulations, conducting regular briefings for the grounds team.

• Maintain detailed records of maintenance schedules, resource usage, and project progress.

• Prepare weekly and monthly reports for management, highlighting operational challenges and resource requirements.

Requirements & Competencies

Professional Qualifications

• Education: Certificate or Diploma in Horticulture, Landscape Management, Agriculture, or a related field.

• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in a landscaping supervisory role, ideally within a large institution or commercial campus.

• Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of plant care, soil science, and landscape maintenance practices.

Essential Skills

• Organization: Exceptional time management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple seasonal projects simultaneously.
