ERPNext / Frappe Developer

Role Overview

This role sits where business process meets code: you take the way a company genuinely operates — its purchase cycles, ledgers, stock movements, payroll runs, and customer pipelines — and shape ERPNext so the software reflects that reality instead of fighting it. Day to day you work inside the Frappe framework, writing server-side Python and client-side JavaScript, extending standard modules, connecting ERPNext to other platforms, and refining the custom DocTypes, workflows, and reports that teams depend on every morning. Done well, the result is fewer manual workarounds, cleaner data, and an ERP that the business can grow into rather than out of.

Key Responsibilities

• Extend and maintain ERPNext modules, building custom DocTypes, server scripts, and client scripts that match how each department actually works.
• Develop full features across the Frappe stack, using Python on the server, JavaScript on the client, and HTML/CSS for custom pages, print formats, and interface tweaks.
• Automate business processes through custom workflows, scheduled background jobs, notification rules, and approval steps.
• Build reports, query reports, and dashboards that give finance, HR, inventory, and sales owners reliable visibility into their own numbers.
• Integrate ERPNext with third-party platforms and internal tools via REST APIs, webhooks, and Frappe's integration layer, including field mapping and sync handling.
• Troubleshoot and resolve application issues, tracing errors through server logs and database state to fix root causes rather than symptoms.
• Support implementation cycles end to end — configuration, data migration assistance, user acceptance testing, and deployment to production.
• Work alongside functional teams to gather requirements, then translate those conversations into technical specifications and, ultimately, working software.
• Keep the system performant and secure through query optimisation, sensible indexing, role-based permissions, and careful review of custom code.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Demonstrated hands-on experience with ERPNext and the Frappe Framework — customising and building on a live instance, not only coursework or tutorials.
• Strong Python skills for backend logic, plus working JavaScript, HTML, and CSS for client-side scripting and interface work.
• Practical experience with MySQL or MariaDB: writing queries and joins, understanding schema relationships, and diagnosing data-level problems.
• Solid grasp of core ERP domains — HR, Accounts, Inventory, and CRM — including how transactions flow between them and where accounting entries originate.
• Comfort with integrating external systems through REST APIs and handling the data mapping that comes with it.
• Familiarity with the bench command-line workflow and version control (Git) as part of normal development practice.
• A track record of delivering ERPNext work in production, typically built over two or more years of hands-on Frappe development; a degree in computer science, information technology, or a related discipline is preferred, though equivalent practical experience is equally valued.
• Clear communication and structured problem-solving — the ability to interview non-technical stakeholders, question vague requests, and explain technical trade-offs without jargon.
