Role Overview
This internship places you inside a well-established medical and scientific equipment distribution company operating along the Eastern Bypass in Ruai, Nairobi. You will work directly with senior technical officers to prepare laboratory instruments for delivery, demonstrate how they work to healthcare clients, and provide first-line support when equipment is handed over or queried. Your daily focus is on making sure diagnostic and research tools are checked, calibrated, and presented in a way that builds client confidence and reduces post-sale technical issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Run pre-delivery inspections on medical and laboratory equipment, including basic quality checks, functional testing, and simple calibration before items leave the facility.
- Assist senior technicians during on-site equipment installation, routine servicing, and troubleshooting at hospitals, diagnostic centres, research institutes, and clinics.
- Prepare and update user manuals, technical specification sheets, and maintenance logs so that every machine has clear, accurate documentation.
- Keep demonstration units and laboratory testing tools clean, safe, and fully operational so they are always ready for client visits.
- Learn the company's full portfolio of medical, diagnostic, and research instruments and use that knowledge during live product demonstrations.
- Explain equipment features, correct handling methods, and daily care routines to clients in simple, practical terms.
- Respond to basic technical queries from customers and escalate complex mechanical or engineering issues to senior team members.
- Coordinate with store and delivery staff to confirm that outgoing products match order specifications, and assist with on-site equipment commissioning and user orientation.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, or a directly related field.
- Previous hands-on exposure in a clinical laboratory, research facility, or medical equipment environment is an added advantage.
- Solid understanding of basic laboratory instruments, diagnostic tools, and standard safety protocols.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to explain technical information clearly to non-specialist clients.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, quick to learn, and dependable when working independently or in a team.
- Genuine interest in building a long-term career around medical equipment technology and customer-facing technical support.
