Job Description

Role Overview

This position centres on owning and nurturing a portfolio of business banking clients, acting as the dependable point of contact for their day-to-day borrowing and service needs. The work combines regular client dialogue, credit oversight, and proactive business development, with the dual goal of protecting the bank’s risk position while growing profitable relationships over the long term. You will spend your time balancing annual facility reviews and risk monitoring with identifying fresh opportunities among both current and prospective customers, always keeping the customer’s experience and the bank’s standards in view.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out annual reviews of customer borrowing facilities, and initiate interim reviews whenever a client’s circumstances or risk profile require a fresh look.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to business owners and managers, offering practical guidance on credit matters, financial structuring, and general business thinking.
  • Define and deliver clear customer communications covering agreed service standards, pricing negotiations, team contact changes, and product updates, using the most effective channel for each audience.
  • Resolve customer complaints promptly, investigating the root cause and implementing solutions that protect the relationship and the bank’s reputation.
  • Identify and sell the most appropriate La Riba products for each customer’s needs, responding reactively to requests and proactively spotting opportunities, often at short notice.
  • Plan and coordinate marketing efforts aimed at winning new business, while expanding existing relationships and aligning group-wide approaches to the portfolio.
  • Monitor adherence to risk and service standards, using early warning indicators and condition triggers to maintain portfolio quality and reduce potential losses.
  • Build and maintain a target list of prospective clients, prioritising them based on current and potential contribution, and gathering the information needed to support credit applications in collaboration with credit, SME, and product specialists.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A business-related degree is preferred, though equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
  • At least five years of experience in a sales-oriented role, including three or more years specifically in relationship management.
  • Detailed working knowledge of core business banking products, coupled with a solid understanding of Islamic banking and Shariah-compliant product principles.
  • The ability to recognise evolving customer needs, match them to the right products or specialists, and coordinate introductions seamlessly.
  • Familiarity with personal banking products and services, enough to address the individual financial needs of business owners and key individuals.
  • Strong customer relationship management skills, with the capacity to manage a diverse portfolio and maintain high service consistency.
  • Team management capability, including the ability to coordinate with specialists and guide others in serving shared clients effectively.
  • A broad understanding of the bank’s broader policies and strategies as they relate to the customer base, enabling confident cross-functional engagement.
