Job Description

Role Overview

You will be the hands-on editor shaping raw footage into polished stories that appear on Family Media’s television channels and digital platforms. Day to day, you will sit with producers to understand each project’s tone, cut sequences that hold viewers’ attention, and refine your work through multiple review rounds until it meets the brand’s quality bar. Your editing choices directly affect how audiences experience Family Media’s content, so your sense of rhythm, emotion, and narrative clarity matters as much as your technical speed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble raw camera footage into cohesive, broadcast-ready video pieces for TV slots, online clips, and social content.
  • Collaborate with producers, directors, and other team members early in the production process to lock in creative direction and editorial goals.
  • Cut long-form and short-form narratives by selecting the strongest takes, structuring scenes, and pacing reveals to keep viewers engaged.
  • Layer in sound design elements such as music tracks, dialogue from interviews or voiceovers, and clean audio mixing when required.
  • Add titles, lower-thirds, captions, motion graphics, transitions, and subtle visual effects that enhance the story without overwhelming it.
  • Deliver rough-cut assemblies for internal feedback, then translate notes into precise final edits that respect deadline and broadcast specifications.
  • Maintain an organised media library by logging, naming, and archiving projects so any team member can retrieve assets quickly.
  • Stay active in the editing community and test new workflows or tools to keep Family Media’s output looking current and competitive.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Post-secondary qualification in film production, video editing, media studies, broadcasting, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least two years of professional experience editing video in a production house, broadcaster, agency, or comparable fast-paced environment.
  • Expert-level, day-to-day capability in Final Cut Pro; your workflow should be fast, organised, and adaptable to project changes.
  • Solid grasp of editing principles including continuity, shot selection, pacing, rhythm, and how to shape raw material into a compelling narrative arc.
  • A creative eye for visual composition and a genuine instinct for knowing when to hold a shot, cut away, or let silence do the work.
  • Proven ability to work under real deadlines without sacrificing accuracy, consistency, or attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, plus dependable organisational habits and time management across multiple concurrent projects.
