Intern - Natural Resources Management

Role Overview

This is a twelve-month, non-renewable public service internship placement under the HOAG-W4R project, with the second cohort of 65 interns scheduled to begin in January 2027. Interns will be embedded across various public institutions and work stations, contributing to project tasks while receiving structured mentorship and on-the-job training in their fields of study. The program is designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical public sector experience, with interns expected to complete assigned work, document their learning, and meet quarterly monitoring requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out all tasks and assignments delegated by the designated supervisor or mentor, ensuring timely and quality completion.
• Keep a structured record of skills acquired and experiences gained throughout the internship, as required by the program.
• Take part in mentorship sessions, team meetings, and any additional activities organized under the internship initiative.
• Submit to quarterly monitoring and evaluation exercises, providing required updates on progress and learning outcomes.
• Accept deployment to any relevant office or work station within the institutions implementing the HOAG-W4R project, as operational needs arise.
• Follow the rules, regulations, and code of conduct of the public institution to which the intern is posted.
• Actively pursue the development of job-specific skills related to the intern’s area of academic specialization.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information and take proper care of any tools, equipment, or property assigned during the placement.
• Complete the official clearance process with the relevant authority before leaving the internship station at the end of the period.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Be between 25 and 35 years of age at the time of application.
• Hold a relevant Bachelor's degree from a recognized institution of higher education.
• Have graduated no more than two years before the date of this advertisement.
• Must not have previously benefited from any other internship program funded by the Government of Kenya.
• Must not have held formal employment in the area of specialization after graduating.
• Demonstrate readiness to be deployed to different work stations, including within institutions implementing the HOAG-W4R project.

What We Offer / Why Join

Selected interns will receive a monthly stipend paid in line with the current Government of Kenya guidelines on public service internships, as well as any applicable circulars or policies issued from time to time. The program provides a structured environment for recent graduates to build practical competence under experienced supervisors, with mentorship and monitoring designed to enhance professional growth. Upon successful completion of the twelve-month period, interns will be issued with a certificate of participation. Please note that the internship may be discontinued in cases of gross or disorderly conduct, unsatisfactory performance, or commission of a criminal offence; interns may also resign by giving one month's notice in writing to the Head of the public institution through their supervisor, or by providing two weeks' notice before the expiry of the agreed internship period.
