Job Description

Role Overview

This position is responsible for keeping the company’s health, safety, and environmental practices operational across a busy transport and logistics environment. You will spend your time moving between workshops, loading bays, and fleet operations, checking that every activity meets Kenyan legal standards and client expectations. Your work directly reduces workplace injuries, vehicle incidents, and environmental harm, while building a culture where safety is a daily habit rather than a formality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update the HSE management system so it stays aligned with Kenyan regulations and client-specific safety requirements.
  • Run scheduled workplace inspections, Job Safety Analyses, and risk assessments across all operational areas, then document findings and track corrective actions.
  • Focus on fleet and yard safety by reviewing cargo lashing, loading zone practices, defensive driving behaviour, and workshop conditions.
  • Lead incident investigations from initial response through root cause analysis, and keep accurate records of near misses, injuries, and corrective measures.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness activities including fire drills, spill response exercises, and the upkeep of first aid and firefighting equipment.
  • Deliver induction training and short toolbox talks for drivers and operational staff, with an emphasis on real-world hazards they face daily.
  • Monitor environmental compliance around waste disposal, spill prevention, PPE usage, and the servicing of safety equipment.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least three years of practical HSE experience, ideally within transport, logistics, fleet management, manufacturing, petroleum, or similar industrial operations.
  • A recognised certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or an equivalent professional HSE qualification is an added advantage.
  • Working knowledge of the Kenyan Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA 2007), WIBA, NEMA regulations, and related compliance obligations.
  • Demonstrated experience in risk assessment, incident investigation, workplace auditing, and delivering safety training.
  • Solid understanding of fire safety, first aid, emergency response procedures, and basic environmental management principles.
  • Strong report-writing and communication skills, plus proficiency with standard computer applications used for safety documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and carry out regular on-site inspections without constant supervision.
  • A valid driving licence is beneficial because the role requires moving between different operational locations.
