Role Overview
The Integrated Solutions Well Engineer carries the engineering thread through a well's entire life — from concept and tender through construction, completion, intervention and abandonment. Working inside a project team or Center of Excellence, this person converts customer requirements, internal management-system processes and industry regulations into well designs, written programmes and practical procedures that field crews can actually execute. The role rewards someone who can move fluidly between technical judgement, commercial awareness and hands-on operational follow-up, because all three are needed on the same day.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop well designs, well plans and step-by-step operational procedures covering construction, completion, intervention and abandonment, keeping each deliverable aligned with the Integrated Solutions management system, local and international standards, and client specifications.
- Contribute engineering content to tender bids, collaborating closely with commercial and procurement colleagues to shape scope, pricing inputs and the technical case put in front of the customer.
- Define which technical services and third-party providers the job requires, and prepare operational time and cost estimates that hold up during execution.
- Build risk registers and contingency plans with internal and external parties, and take part in peer reviews, peer assists and other quality-assurance activities across the project.
- Track daily progress and operational expenditure, monitor technical and operational KPIs, and benchmark results against offset well data and the agreed well objectives.
- Communicate with rig-site and project stakeholders, present to customers and attend customer meetings — some travel to other locations is expected — and recommend adjustments that keep service delivery on the approved plan.
- Participate in root cause analysis investigations and own the project's technical documentation: end-of-well reports, after-action reviews, lessons-learned summaries and data management in line with Integrated Solutions procedures.
- Model safe working practices at all times, ensure every engineering activity complies with HSE policy and procedure, and reinforce safety culture by personal example.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering or in Mechanical/Chemical Engineering, ideally paired with a Master's in Petroleum/Oil & Gas or Well Engineering.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience across well construction, completions, intervention and/or optimisation — for example drill bits, BHA design, engineering simulation, field operations, or preparation of programmes and designs.
- Familiarity with conventional rotary drilling, horizontal and/or multilateral wells, pad drilling and unconventional developments.
- Working knowledge of geomechanics and well control.
- Comfort with well engineering and design software — hydraulics, torque and drag, basic casing design — plus the MS Office suite and Power BI or comparable analytical tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving instincts, including the confidence to form hypotheses and keep moving when the picture is incomplete.
- Excellent English communication in both writing and speech, with the ability to distil complex technical topics into clear, simple messages.
- Interpersonal strength to work across businesses and cultures, achieve goals through influence rather than authority, and earn credibility with senior leaders.
What We Offer / Why Join
- Exposure to the full well lifecycle, from tender and design through execution to close-out, rather than a single narrow phase.
- Regular collaboration with commercial, procurement, field and customer teams, giving visibility well beyond a purely desk-based engineering role.
- Support for continued professional growth through affiliation with professional societies, participation in networks, workshops and seminars, and access to training courses that keep you current with evolving technology and engineering practice.
