Role Overview
This Workshop Supervisor role sits at the center of an engineering company that keeps heavy equipment running. Day to day, you will run the workshop floor—scheduling jobs, assigning work to technicians and mechanics, and making sure every repair, service, and overhaul is completed safely and on time. Your work directly affects equipment uptime, customer confidence, and the company’s reputation for reliable heavy-equipment maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate daily workshop activities, assigning jobs to technicians and mechanics based on skills, priorities, and deadlines.
- Supervise and support the team as they service, troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul drilling rigs, compressors, trucks, and related heavy equipment.
- Provide hands-on guidance when diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults, helping technicians work through complex problems.
- Inspect finished work and confirm that each piece of equipment is tested and ready before it leaves the workshop.
- Ensure spare parts, tools, and materials are available for each job, coordinating with stores and procurement as needed.
- Keep job cards, service records, and workshop progress reports accurate and up to date.
- Organize and oversee on-site repair work, keeping customers informed about job status and any changes.
- Enforce workshop safety rules, housekeeping standards, and correct use of tools and equipment.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Plant Mechanics, or a comparable technical field.
- At least five years of hands-on maintenance and repair experience, including two years in a supervisory role leading a workshop team.
- Practical expertise with diesel engines, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and compressors.
- Background working on drilling rigs, construction equipment, mining machinery, or similar heavy equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, service manuals, and schematics.
- Strong leadership, planning, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
- Experience servicing and overhauling drilling rigs is a distinct advantage.
