This position places you at the heart of the United Nations Office at Nairobi’s technology operations, where you will keep the organization’s local and wide area networks running reliably, securely, and efficiently. Day to day, you will oversee network infrastructure, respond to and resolve escalated technical issues, strengthen security controls, and build automation scripts that remove repetitive manual work from the team. Your efforts directly support UNON’s ability to carry out its global mission by ensuring that staff, systems, and services stay connected without interruption.

- Design, implement, and monitor network security measures, including access control lists, intrusion detection alerts, and enforcement of security policies.
- Develop Python and Ansible scripts to automate routine network operations, and design solutions that make infrastructure more programmable and adaptable.
- Lead or support major network implementation projects, ensuring alignment with UN policies and industry standards.
- Act as the escalation point for lower-level technical staff, troubleshooting complex network problems, tracking resolutions, and coordinating with the service desk.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments on production systems, analyze security advisories, and recommend updates or fixes to mitigate risks.
- Research and evaluate new hardware, software, and communication products, then advise supervisors on which technologies to adopt.
- Maintain accurate network documentation, review syslog data, and prepare reports, dashboards, and visualizations to support decision-making.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Completion of secondary education or an equivalent high school diploma is mandatory.
- Current CCNP Routing and Switching certification and Cisco DevNet certification are required.
- A first-level university degree is highly desirable and reduces the required experience by two years.
- At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in IT, specifically covering routing and switching, Python scripting, network automation, troubleshooting, wireless networking, and network security.
- Hands-on expertise in designing, implementing, troubleshooting, and managing complex networks.
- Working knowledge of equipment from major vendors including Cisco, Checkpoint, Fortinet, and Ruckus.
- One or more years of experience in data analytics or a closely related field is a plus.
- Additional certifications or training in intrusion detection systems, network programmability, wireless security, or related specializations are an advantage.
