Job Description

Role Overview

This internship sits within the team that supports the Global Partnership on Plastic Pollution and Marine Litter, with a particular focus on keeping the Global Plastics Hub functional, accurate, and user-friendly. The selected candidate will spend their time working with plastic lifecycle data, learning the Hub’s technical architecture, fixing issues, and analysing how people interact with the platform. Their work helps ensure that policymakers, researchers, and practitioners can rely on the Hub as a current, accessible tool in the fight against plastic pollution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support plastic lifecycle data analysis by identifying new datasets and recommending the best ways to integrate and visualise them within the global data map and country dashboards.
  • Assist with the optimisation and migration of the Global Plastics Hub by studying its architecture and codebase, removing outdated content and data, and providing technical support throughout the migration process.
  • Help improve the Global Plastics Hub on an ongoing basis by detecting bugs, resolving technical issues, and suggesting functional upgrades.
  • Monitor user engagement and conduct analysis of user behaviour to generate insights that can shape outreach efforts and encourage broader use of the Hub.
  • Support day-to-day management of the Global Plastics Hub, including content updates, quality checks, and coordination with other team members.
  • Collaborate with colleagues working on policy and communication to ensure that technical changes align with the Hub’s overall goals and audience needs.
  • Maintain clear documentation of technical processes, data sources, and platform changes to support long-term sustainability of the Hub.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a closely related field is required; a master’s degree in a relevant discipline is desirable.
  • Familiarity with data analysis, data integration, and visualisation approaches, especially when working with environmental or lifecycle-oriented datasets.
  • Basic understanding of web platforms and codebases, including experience with debugging, content cleanup, or migration-related tasks.
  • Ability to work with user engagement metrics and translate raw usage data into practical outreach or platform improvement recommendations.
  • Strong attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple technical and data-related tasks in a structured way.
  • Fluency in English is required, and knowledge of French or another official United Nations language would be an advantage.
