Job Description

This position is responsible for the operational health and strategic alignment of all core ICT business systems across Uganda, Malawi, and South Sudan. The Regional IT Lead ensures that life assurance, general insurance, medical, and asset management platforms remain highly available, secure, and standardized, while acting as the essential connector between country-level IT teams and the central ICT leadership. Day-to-day work involves monitoring system performance, coordinating incident resolution, enforcing group standards, and guiding regional technical staff to keep business operations running without interruption.

Role Overview

In this role, you will oversee the delivery and support of core business application systems across three countries, ensuring they meet the needs of the organization's diverse insurance and asset management lines. You will be the single point of accountability for regional system performance, audit readiness, and vendor service quality. By aligning local practices with group ICT policies and facilitating communication between in-country teams and the Head of ICT, you help the company achieve its corporate strategy and regional business targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain continuous operation of core business applications for Life, General Insurance, Medical, and Asset Management across Uganda, Malawi, and South Sudan, targeting 99.99% or higher system availability.
  • Plan and execute regular preventive maintenance and system enhancements to keep all regional platforms stable, secure, and up to date.
  • Review existing business applications to identify integration opportunities, support product innovation, and strengthen system controls with complete audit trails.
  • Serve as the primary coordination link between the Head of ICT and in-country IT staff, ensuring clear communication and consistent execution of ICT initiatives.
  • Track system performance, risks, and recurring issues, then deliver consolidated progress reports to central ICT leadership.
  • Enforce group ICT standards across all regional sites, ensuring configuration consistency and policy compliance.
  • Drive closure of all ICT-related audit findings and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop and deliver end-user training programs that improve adoption and effective use of ICT applications across all regions.
  • Work closely with the technology reliability team to resolve incidents and service requests promptly, escalating complex cases to specialists and ensuring fast response times.
  • Manage third-party ICT service providers, monitor their performance, and enforce service level agreements.
  • Conduct performance appraisals, coaching, and mentoring for regional IT staff, building a capable and motivated team.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications such as Oracle, ITIL, Project Management (PMP/Prince2), or COBIT.
  • At least seven years of hands-on experience managing application systems in a production environment.
  • Deep working knowledge of core insurance business systems, specifically Life, General Insurance, and Asset Management platforms.
  • Proven experience supporting ICT systems across multiple countries or regions, including remote coordination.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, especially for troubleshooting complex system issues and identifying root causes.
  • Interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse regional teams and cultural backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated integrity, agility, performance orientation, and a cooperative working style.
