The technician will be a key point of contact for resolving common hardware, software, and connectivity issues, while also helping to maintain accurate ICT asset and service records. By keeping technology running smoothly, this position directly supports seamless classroom learning, online assessments, school events, and the secure use of approved school systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first-line technical support for staff and pupils, diagnosing and resolving issues with computers, Chromebooks, iPads, printers, scanners, and other peripherals.
  • Assist with the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of classroom technology, including interactive whiteboards, projectors, and audio-visual equipment used in lessons and school events.
  • Support the daily operation of Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace accounts, helping users with login, access, and common application problems.
  • Maintain accurate records of ICT support requests, asset inventories, repairs, and equipment movements, ensuring data is up to date and auditable.
  • Help prepare devices for online assessments, specialist teaching spaces, and curriculum activities, ensuring all software and security settings are correctly applied.
  • Monitor and resolve basic wired and wireless network connectivity issues, escalating more complex problems as needed.
  • Ensure all technology use aligns with the school’s safeguarding, online safety, data protection, and acceptable-use policies, reporting any security concerns promptly.
  • Carry out routine equipment checks, software updates, and minor hardware replacements to keep devices in good working order.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent qualification) in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
  • Relevant technical certifications such as CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Fundamentals, Google IT Support, Google Workspace Administrator, or Cisco CCNA are highly desirable.
  • Proven hands-on experience delivering Level 1 (first-line) desktop or technical support in a busy environment.
  • Practical familiarity with Windows computers, Chromebooks, iPads, printers, scanners, and common peripherals.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and core Microsoft applications (e.g., Office suite).
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve common hardware, software, printing, login, connectivity, and user access issues efficiently.
  • Basic understanding of both wired and wireless networking fundamentals.
  • Ability to maintain clear, accurate ICT support logs, asset registers, and repair records using spreadsheets or helpdesk tools.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the confidence to support users who have varying levels of technical comfort.
  • Understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding, and online safety principles, particularly in a school or child-centred setting.
  • Previous experience working in a school or educational environment is advantageous but not essential.
