IB Year 2 Homeroom Teacher

Role Overview

This role is central to delivering an inquiry-based, internationally minded curriculum within a Primary Years Programme (PYP) setting. Day to day, you will design and adapt learning experiences that respond to each child’s developmental stage, assess student growth authentically, and work closely with families to ensure transparent, constructive communication about progress. Your work directly supports the school’s mission to nurture curious, reflective, and principled learners who embody the core values of the community.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with teaching colleagues to draft and refine curriculum documentation that aligns with both the school’s academic standards and the PYP framework.
• Facilitate student-centred, inquiry-driven lessons, differentiating instruction to address varied learning profiles and ensuring every child can access and engage with the material.
• Use a range of authentic assessment strategies—observations, portfolios, conferences—to monitor each student’s progress, then record and analyse this data to shape future teaching decisions.
• Share assessment outcomes and programme information with parents and guardians in a clear, honest, and respectful manner, building partnerships that support student growth.
• Identify, procure, and maintain classroom resources (books, manipulatives, digital tools) so that materials are always available and in good condition for active learning.
• Contribute to the wider life of the Junior School, including co-curricular events, assemblies, and community-building activities that take place beyond the regular teaching day.
• Uphold and reinforce the school’s discipline policy and core values throughout the school environment, guiding students to make responsible choices and resolve conflicts constructively.
• Engage in the school’s Appraisal for Growth process as an active member of the professional learning community, setting goals and reflecting on practice with peers.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• A valid TSC Certificate, a recognised international teaching qualification, or a B.Ed./M.Ed. that qualifies you to teach at the primary level.
• At least three years of experience as a PYP classroom teacher within an IB World School or similar inquiry-based programme.
• Demonstrated understanding of child development theories (cognitive, social, emotional) and how they inform instruction and classroom management.
• Strong collaboration skills, with a track record of working flexibly and creatively in a team-oriented environment.
• Ability to reflect on one’s own practice, adapt to changing student needs, and communicate sensitively with diverse stakeholders.
