Role Overview
We are looking for an organised and approachable HR Officer to take ownership of the everyday people operations at our Nanyuki base. In this role you will keep employee data and records in order, guide new starters through a structured journey into the business, and be the person colleagues come to for practical HR support. Your work directly contributes to a well-run, legally sound workplace where managers and staff alike can rely on consistent, fair procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the daily operational side of HR: oversee the upkeep of employee files, prepare personnel documentation, and ensure records reflect the most current information at all times.
- Manage the recruitment process end to end, from placing vacancies and screening candidates to arranging interviews, conducting reference checks, and issuing contracts through to offer stage.
- Welcome and integrate new employees by coordinating orientation schedules, introducing them to company policy, and ensuring they have the practical setup needed to be productive from day one.
- Act as a trusted point of contact for employee relations matters, including grievances, disciplinary discussions, and general workplace questions, always handling issues in a confidential and professional manner.
- Keep personnel data accurate and up to date by tracking absences, leave balances, salary inputs, training sessions, and any changes to an individual’s terms or conditions of employment.
- Support managers through the performance review cycle by helping set objectives, reminding stakeholders of deadlines, and compiling feedback that informs appraisal outcomes and development plans.
- Assist with learning and development initiatives, whether that involves coordinating internal workshops, scheduling external training, or monitoring staff progress toward agreed training goals.
- Monitor compliance with employment law and internal HR policy, proposing updates when legislation changes and flagging any practices that may place the organisation at risk.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Between 2 and 4 years of practical experience in a human resources role, with exposure to a wide variety of HR duties rather than only one specialist function.
- A diploma or degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a directly related discipline.
- Working knowledge of Kenyan labour law, statutory requirements, and standard HR policies and procedures, particularly in areas such as hiring, disciplinary action, and employee records.
- Strong organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail when documenting and managing employee information.
- Professional discretion and high integrity when handling sensitive personal data and workplace concerns.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, enabling clear interactions with employees at all levels and fair handling grievances when they arise.
- Willingness to live in, or relocate to, Nanyuki; this role is based in Nanyuki and requires a full-time, on-site presence.
