Role Overview
This role anchors the daily people operations at a busy, faith-based hospital, ensuring that every stage of the employee journey—from first interview to ongoing performance conversations—runs smoothly and fairly. You will work closely with department heads and staff alike, turning HR policies into practical, compassionate action that supports both clinical excellence and a healthy workplace culture. Your behind-the-scenes work directly shapes staff morale, regulatory compliance, and the hospital’s ability to deliver consistent, high-quality care.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate end-to-end recruitment: drafting vacancy notices, screening CVs, scheduling interviews, conducting reference checks, and managing a smooth offer-to-onboarding transition for new hires.
- Maintain meticulous personnel files and the HR information system, including contracts, leave balances, medical records, training histories, and disciplinary documentation.
- Facilitate the annual performance appraisal cycle, support managers in setting objectives, and track follow-up actions such as probation reviews and development plans.
- Plan and implement staff welfare initiatives, including wellness check-ins, recognition programs, and grievance-handling mechanisms that reflect the hospital’s caring values.
- Advise employees and supervisors on HR policies, disciplinary procedures, and workplace conflict resolution, ensuring consistent and impartial application.
- Monitor compliance with Kenya’s labour legislation and IHRM standards, including contract renewals, statutory deductions, and timely reporting to relevant authorities.
- Support the HR Manager in payroll inputs, leave administration, and workforce data reporting to inform staffing decisions.
- Contribute to a positive, ethical workplace culture by promoting the hospital’s mission of integrity, compassion, and excellence in every interaction.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline from a recognised institution.
- A Higher Diploma in Human Resource Management or CHRP certification is a strong advantage, as is any additional specialised training in health-sector HR.
- Active membership with the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) and possession of a valid practicing certificate are required.
- At least three years of hands-on HR experience within a fast-paced environment—ideally in healthcare, a hospital, or another service-driven organisation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities discreetly and accurately, with strong attention to detail in record-keeping and compliance matters.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to interact professionally across all levels of staff, from clinical teams to senior leadership.
- Proven interpersonal and organisational skills, including sound judgement, empathy, and the ability to maintain confidentiality under pressure.
- Proficiency in common HR software and Microsoft Office tools, with a willingness to learn the hospital’s internal systems.
