Role Overview
This role sits at the heart of the human resources function for a manufacturing operation, where the day-to-day focus is on keeping the employee lifecycle running smoothly—from attracting and bringing in new talent to supporting current staff through performance, benefits, and workplace concerns. You will act as the trusted link between management and employees, ensuring that every HR process, policy, and record is handled accurately and in line with Kenyan labour law. Your work directly influences workforce stability, compliance readiness, and the overall productivity of the site, making you essential to both operational continuity and a positive work culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the full recruitment cycle for the company, including identifying hiring needs, screening applicants, coordinating interview panels, verifying references, and guiding new hires through a structured onboarding experience.
- Serve as the primary contact for employee questions about contracts, benefits, leave, workplace rules, and HR policies, and resolve issues or escalate them appropriately.
- Manage sensitive employee relations matters such as grievances, disciplinary hearings, and internal investigations, documenting each step clearly and ensuring fair and lawful handling.
- Track employee performance by coordinating appraisal cycles, supporting managers in setting realistic KPIs, monitoring progress on improvement plans, and identifying training gaps that need addressing.
- Prepare and validate monthly payroll inputs, including changes to salaries, overtime, deductions, bonuses, and new hires, while keeping all HRIS records accurate and confidential.
- Coordinate employee benefits, especially medical insurance and statutory requirements, and ensure all staff understand what they are entitled to and how to access it.
- Organise mandatory and developmental training sessions, maintain training logs, and support safety initiatives that keep the workplace compliant with Kenyan regulations.
- Generate HR metrics, workforce analytics, and compliance reports for management, and assist with internal audits, labour inspections, and other regulatory reviews.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in human resource management, business administration, or a directly related field is required.
- A recognised professional HR qualification such as CHRP or CIPD is essential, as is active membership with the relevant Kenyan HR body.
- At least 10 years of progressive HR experience, ideally within a manufacturing, industrial, or fast-paced production environment.
- Solid command of Kenyan labour laws, statutory deductions, industrial relations practices, and current HR best practices.
- Proven hands-on experience across recruitment, employee relations, performance management, payroll support, and general HR administration.
- Familiarity with HRIS platforms and payroll software, plus strong Microsoft Office skills for reporting and data analysis.
- The ability to handle confidential information with discretion, communicate clearly at all levels, and manage competing HR priorities in a deadline-driven setting.
