Role Overview
You will lead the full spectrum of human resource operations for a hospitality business on Thika Road, acting as the primary link between executive leadership, department heads, and the wider workforce. Your day-to-day responsibilities include steering recruitment, keeping payroll accurate and timely, managing employee grievances, and making sure every HR process stays within Kenya’s employment laws. By building strong people practices and a fair disciplinary framework, you will help maintain a stable, engaged team that supports the hotel’s service standards and operational continuity.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end recruitment from identifying staffing needs through to interviewing, shortlisting, and issuing contracts, while building talent pipelines for seasonal and emergency hiring.
- Serve as the main point of contact for employee relations issues, including grievances, conflicts, and workplace complaints, resolving them with discretion and impartiality.
- Oversee disciplinary procedures and ensure all actions follow both company policy and Kenyan employment legislation, including handling formal hearings and supporting line managers in performance-related matters.
- Coordinate monthly payroll inputs by verifying attendance, overtime, leave balances, statutory deductions, and bonuses, then working with Finance to resolve discrepancies and audit payroll records.
- Run the performance appraisal cycle, assist supervisors in setting KPIs, and design improvement plans for underperforming staff to elevate overall productivity.
- Identify training gaps across departments, organize capacity-building sessions, and implement retention and recognition initiatives that support succession planning.
- Maintain accurate and confidential HR records, including contracts, leave logs, and employee files, while producing monthly reports on turnover, absenteeism, and staffing trends.
- Keep HR policies, handbooks, and procedures updated in line with current labour law, occupational safety requirements, and statutory obligations.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- At least five years of progressive HR experience, including a minimum of two years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Strong preference for candidates with HR management experience in a full-service hotel, resort, or high-volume hospitality environment.
- Membership or certification with the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) or SHRM is an added advantage.
- Solid knowledge of the Kenyan Employment Act, industrial relations, disciplinary dispute resolution, and OSHA standards.
- Hands-on familiarity with payroll systems, HRIS platforms, and performance tracking tools.
- Demonstrated skills in negotiation, conflict resolution, and communicating confidently with senior leadership and department heads.
