Role Overview

This role is the first point of contact for every guest, setting the tone for the entire dining experience. On a daily basis, you will coordinate seating flow, manage reservation systems, and support the service team during rush periods to keep operations running smoothly. Your ability to create a warm, efficient welcome directly influences repeat visits and overall guest satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Greet and seat diners promptly while balancing walk-ins, reservations, and waitlists to avoid bottlenecks.
• Update and maintain an accurate seating chart, adjusting table assignments as needed to optimise floor coverage.
• Take phone and in-person reservations, record special requests, and confirm bookings during busy shifts.
• Check menus and table setups regularly to ensure cleanliness, neatness, and that all materials are current.
• Engage with guests at key moments—before seating, during lulls, and at departure—to collect real-time feedback and address any concerns.
• Relay timely information to waitstaff and kitchen about group sizes, celebrations, or dietary notes.
• Monitor the entrance and dining area continuously, stepping in to assist with bussing or resetting tables when the team is stretched.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Diploma or certificate in Food & Beverage Service, hospitality, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• One to three years of host or front‑of‑house experience in either a fast‑paced casual or fine‑dining restaurant setting.
• Strong situational awareness and composure—able to think on your feet during surges without losing warmth toward guests.
• Polished personal appearance and a naturally outgoing, energetic demeanour that puts people at ease.
• High emotional intelligence, including active listening and the ability to de‑escalate minor frustrations gracefully.
• Basic computer proficiency for reservation software and familiarity with point‑of‑sale systems is a plus.
