Hospital Housekeeper

Job Purpose
The Hospital Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role is critical in preventing infections and ensuring compliance with healthcare hygiene standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and disinfect patient rooms, wards, operating areas, and public spaces according to hospital protocols
- Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and waste disposal
- Properly handle and dispose of medical and general waste following safety guidelines
- Sanitize high-touch surfaces (e.g., bed rails, door handles, medical equipment) regularly
- Replenish supplies such as soap, hand sanitizers, and paper products
- Respond promptly to spills, contamination, or emergency cleaning needs
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures at all times
- Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and appropriately
- Report maintenance issues or safety hazards to the supervisor
- Maintain confidentiality and respect patient privacy
Qualifications and Requirements
- Certificate or secondary school education (KCSE or equivalent preferred)
- Previous housekeeping experience, preferably in a hospital or healthcare facility
- Knowledge of infection control and hygiene standards is an added advantage
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team
- Good physical stamina and ability to handle manual tasks
- Basic communication skills (English and/or Kiswahili)
