Role Overview
This position sits at the intersection of client relationship management and freight operations, acting as the go-to expert for complex shipments that move by air, ocean, or road. You will work alongside customer management teams to design competitive logistics solutions, protect revenue, and keep operating costs in check while overseeing every stage of a shipment’s journey. Beyond day-to-day execution, you will also serve as a commercial strategist—analyzing trade patterns, negotiating with carriers, and equipping sales colleagues with the market intelligence they need to win and retain business.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the subject matter expert for customer management teams on any sales opportunity or shipment that requires deep freight knowledge, from first inquiry to final delivery.
- Build long-term client partnerships by understanding each customer’s business model, shipment volumes, and route requirements, then customizing solutions across air, land, and sea modes.
- Join client meetings alongside customer management teams to recover lost accounts, close new deals, upsell to existing customers, and expand current business relationships.
- Resolve escalated customer issues involving claims, discrepancies, key performance indicators, and operational failures by coordinating with internal teams and carriers.
- Manage the complete lifecycle of freight shipments, ensuring accurate booking, timely handoffs, milestone updates, and final delivery while maintaining data integrity in CargoWise.
- Source and negotiate the most competitive rates from airlines, ocean carriers, agents, and trucking providers, and regularly update pricing lists for customer management teams to follow.
- Drive product revenue growth toward annual targets, reduce direct and indirect expenses, and implement efficiency improvements without compromising service quality.
- Provide leadership with market data, including competitor activity, upcoming projects, product profitability reports, and freight market trends, while collaborating with regional and global product managers on operational changes.
- Train new hires and existing customer management staff on freight products and selling techniques, and identify high-potential employees for future development.
- Create and implement standard operating procedures for freight operations across the station, working closely with regional and global product teams to stay aligned.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, international business, or a closely related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in air freight forwarding, with a solid grasp of global trade lanes and cross-border logistics.
- Proven track record in customer service and managing key business accounts, preferably in a freight or forwarding environment.
- Hands-on familiarity with CargoWise is strongly preferred, including accurate milestone management and shipment tracking.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office—particularly Excel for data analysis, PowerPoint for presentations, and Word for documentation.
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear proposals, reports, and process documentation for clients and internal stakeholders.
- Confidence in negotiating rates and resolving conflicts with carriers, suppliers, and customers while maintaining professional relationships.
