We prepare the next generation of leaders and innovators through world-class teaching methods with an emphasis on 21st century skills. We established Nova Pioneer because we believe education should prepare young people to create their future, not just work in it. Nova Pioneer is a launchpad where ambitious young Africans can begin to shape a better future for the continent and the world. We began by asking ourselves the question, "What capabilities will young people need to succeed in and shape the future that they will encounter, and what approaches to education will best develop those capabilities?” All of our founders have extensive backgrounds in education at top institutions across the globe, having studied at universities such as Harvard and Stanford and led education programs for McKinsey and Co., the African Leadership Academy, and top school networks in the US (Excel Academies). Yet at Nova Pioneer we believe that you never stop learning. So we visited and studied leading schools spanning from Singapore to Peru, and the United States to the United Kingdom. We connected with leaders of the cutting-edge education research, and leading thinkers on 21st Century Learning such as Sir Ken Robinson and teachers and atelieristas from Reggio Emilia, the leading global early education model, to name a few. We launched our first school in South Africa in 2014, with the aim of incorporating the best education models in the world, while keeping it as affordable as possible. We’ve since expanded within South Africa, and to Kenya as well - with our first Kenyan school launching in 2015. In all of our schools, we bring in and train top educators to deliver educational excellence in an environment that nurtures our students to uncover their potential and blaze trails in the world beyond our school walls. Job Description

Role Overview

This is a hands-on teaching support role within a lively school environment, working alongside a resident teacher to deliver engaging lessons and care for children from the moment they arrive. On any given day, you will prepare learning materials, lead activities that build social and motor skills, observe how each child is progressing, and step in to keep the classroom calm, safe, and focused. Your work matters because it directly shapes the quality of every child’s daily experience and helps the school consistently deliver on its promise of a nurturing, rigorous education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and run daily activities that follow the school’s curriculum and lesson plans, catering to each child’s social, physical, and emotional needs.
  • Work with the resident teacher to build a classroom environment that is organised, developmentally appropriate, and conducive to focused learning.
  • Track student progress through regular observation and assessment, then use that data to adjust how you deliver lessons and support individual learners.
  • Prepare and maintain a rich variety of materials, resources, and spaces for both structured learning and imaginative play, indoors and outdoors.
  • Lead games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and other activities that promote physical, mental, and social development, while making sure children use equipment safely.
  • Instruct students individually and in small groups, adapting your teaching style to suit their varying needs and interests.
  • Establish and enforce clear behaviour expectations, and supervise class projects, field trips, guest visits, and other experiential learning opportunities.
  • Document each child’s progress in written reports for the Principal, school leaders, and parents, and assist with daily routines such as greeting children and boarding buses.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • TSC certification and either a Degree in Education or a P1 Diploma.
  • One to three years of teaching experience in a classroom setting.
  • Solid working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel for planning, reporting, and communication.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to give clear updates to parents and colleagues.
  • Comfort with change and ambiguity, plus a proactive approach to identifying problems and finding practical solutions.
  • Enthusiasm for a collaborative, feedback-rich culture where mutual vulnerability is embraced and continuous improvement is expected.
  • A genuine desire to grow as a leader and apply that growth to positively impact the lives of African youth.

What We Offer / Why Join

You will be part of a school culture that invests seriously in your professional growth. This includes daily team reflections, weekly professional development sessions, instructional coaching, and organisation-wide learning opportunities that help you sharpen your craft. You will also be surrounded by colleagues who value open feedback and shared purpose, giving you a daily environment where you can stretch your leadership skills while making a meaningful difference in children’s lives.
