Job Description

Vacancy: Health and Safety Officer

Industry: Manufacturing

Salary: Kshs. 60,000 – 80,000 Gross

Experience Level: Mid-level (3–4 years)

Strategic Safety Mandate

Our manufacturing division is looking for a dedicated Health and Safety Officer to lead our workplace protection strategies. Operating along the busy Mombasa Road industrial corridor, you will be the primary custodian of employee well-being, tasked with aligning our operational workflows with both Kenyan statutory requirements and global safety best practices.

Core Accountabilities

Your mission is to identify, mitigate, and eliminate workplace hazards. This involves developing comprehensive safety guidelines, conducting regular site audits, and leading incident investigations to uncover root causes. You will serve as the lead educator for our workforce, ensuring that every employee—from the shop floor to the boardroom—understands their role in maintaining a secure and compliant environment.

Professional Prerequisites

  • Education: Degree in Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) or a closely related technical field.

  • Experience: 3–4 years of proven success in a similar role specifically within a manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • Legislation Mastery: Must be thoroughly versed in the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) of Kenya and other relevant local regulations.

  • Certification: Valid certification from recognized professional safety bodies (e.g., DOSHS).

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in developing safety training modules and conducting technical risk assessments.

Scope of Work

  • Hazard Management: Conducting thorough risk assessments across all production lines and implementing control measures to prevent work-related illnesses or injuries.

  • Compliance & Auditing: Performing regular workplace inspections to identify non-compliance and ensuring all internal safety standards meet legal benchmarks.

  • Incident Investigation: Leading the analysis of accidents or "near misses," preparing detailed reports, and recommending preventive actions to management.

  • Emergency Preparedness: Developing evacuation plans, fire safety protocols, and first aid arrangements, including the coordination of regular emergency drills.

  • Training & Culture: Promoting a "safety-first" mindset through regular employee inductions, awareness campaigns, and specialized PPE training.

  • Equipment Oversight: Managing the procurement and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and advising on the safe handling of hazardous substances.

  • Reporting: Maintaining meticulous records of training, inspections, and safety performance data for audit readiness.

What is Provided

  • Competitive Remuneration: A salary of Kshs. 60,000 – 80,000 based on expertise.

  • Leadership Scope: The authority to drive safety improvements and influence operational policy in a large-scale manufacturing plant.

  • Professional Environment: Access to resources needed to implement high-standard safety protocols and emergency response systems.

Qualified HSE professionals are invited to submit their updated CV and professional certifications for review.
