Head of Programmes

Role Overview

This position leads a dynamic Programmes team and drives the delivery of the Kenya Society for the Blind's strategic ambitions through well-managed project cycles and sustainable growth. Day to day, the role combines team leadership, donor engagement, programme design, and performance monitoring, ensuring every project contributes meaningfully to the Society's long-term vision. You will be the bridge between internal teams and external partners, aligning resources, plans, and stakeholder relationships to turn strategy into measurable impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of programme plans, budgets, and work plans that translate the Society's strategic goals into actionable projects.
• Drive fundraising efforts by identifying new funding opportunities, preparing compelling proposals, and managing relationships with current and prospective donors.
• Oversee the full project cycle from inception to closure, ensuring activities stay on schedule, within budget, and aligned with agreed outcomes.
• Establish and maintain robust monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems to track progress, capture insights, and inform evidence-based improvements.
• Supervise, coach, and motivate programme staff, fostering a cohesive team culture and ensuring clear roles and accountability.
• Build and strengthen partnerships with government agencies, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders to expand the Society's reach and influence.
• Ensure sound financial management across programmes, including resource allocation, expenditure tracking, and donor reporting.
• Champion compliance with internal policies, donor requirements, and national regulations, including safeguarding and inclusion principles.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree from a recognised institution, supplemented by a postgraduate qualification in Project Management.
• At least 15 years of relevant project management experience, including 5 years at senior management level.
• Proven expertise in programme planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and strategic reporting.
• Strong track record in resource mobilisation, proposal development, and donor relationship management.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, delegate effectively, and maintain high team morale.
• Solid grasp of financial management principles and donor compliance standards.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills, with up-to-date knowledge of disability and development issues.
