Job Title: Head of Department Finance
Job Purpose
The Head of Department Finance is responsible for the efficient management of the company’s financial resources, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting and compliance with legal standards. The role involves developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to support strategic decision making. The role collaborates with various departments to establish budgets and forecast activities, monitor financial performance, implement cost control measures and coordinate year-end organizational audits.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate financial reporting and legal compliance.
- Collaborate with department heads to establish annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor financial performance against budgets, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.
- Implement cost control measures to optimize resource allocation and improve profitability.
- Coordinate year-end organizational audits, liaising with internal and external auditors.
- Prepare and present financial reports to senior management, supporting strategic decision making.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of financial transactions, including accounts payable, receivable, and payroll.
- Manage cash flow and treasury functions to safeguard the company’s financial health.
- Supervise and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Minimum Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum of 8 years working experience in a finance role, with at least 3 years in a managerial capacity.
- Proficiency in computer skills, including advanced Excel and financial software.
- Knowledge of CargoWise system is essential.
- Professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CIMA) is preferred.
