Role Overview
ENAF is looking for a detail-driven Finance Intern to support its Financial Resources Management Division in Nairobi. Working under the Accountant’s guidance, you will help keep everyday financial transactions accurate, properly documented, and ready for reporting and audit review. The internship offers practical exposure to the financial controls and compliance expectations that underpin donor-funded, non-profit programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- ERP transaction processing: Enter approved financial transactions into the ERP system daily, keeping records aligned with monthly and quarterly reporting cycles.
- Voucher and receipt preparation: Help raise journal vouchers and receipts, then assemble the supporting documents needed for monthly financial reporting under donor and institutional rules.
- Bank and general ledger reconciliations: Support monthly reconciliation of assigned cashbooks and GL accounts, helping to surface discrepancies and maintain reliable controls.
- Supplier invoice and tax handling: Batch supplier invoices, flag payments that may attract withholding tax or withholding VAT, and gather the documentation required for tax compliance.
- Audit schedule preparation: Assist with building audit schedules that correctly classify revenues and expenses, contributing to a smoother annual audit.
- KYC verification and records filing: Check RLF KYC documents and maintain timely, orderly filing of payment vouchers and other financial records.
- Additional support: Carry out other finance-related tasks as directed by the supervisor.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Degree in Finance, Commerce, Accounting, or a related discipline.
- Professional qualification: CPA Intermediate Level 2.
- Experience: At least one year working in a busy donor-funded organisation or a comparable environment.
- Technical skills: Solid grasp of accounting principles, familiarity with financial systems and Microsoft Dynamics, strong spreadsheet ability, and comfort analysing financial data.
- Behavioural strengths: High attention to detail, collaborative approach, problem-solving mindset, willingness to learn and grow, ability to juggle multiple tasks, and clear communication and presentation skills.
