Role Overview
As a General Worker within Unilever's manufacturing operations, you will keep production lines moving by preparing equipment, maintaining cleanliness, and supporting machine operators throughout each shift. Your attention to safety and quality directly protects product integrity and helps the factory meet its output targets efficiently. This is a hands-on, fast-paced role suited to someone who thrives on physical work and clear procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out pre-start-up inspections of the work area and machinery to confirm everything is clean, safe, and ready according to standard operating procedures, then support the shutdown process at the end of a run.
- Perform routine cleaning of equipment and surfaces, and flag any hidden dirt or contamination risks to machine operators or team leaders so they can be addressed before they affect the product.
- Keep a steady flow of raw materials, packaging, and consumables available to the production line so operators never have to pause work unnecessarily.
- Check output against quality specifications, immediately reporting any product or packaging defects and stopping issues early when you spot process anomalies.
- Record shift events clearly and conduct structured handovers so the next team has accurate details on machine status, materials, and any quality concerns.
- Move quickly between assigned workstations, climb stairs, and maintain the physical stamina needed to keep pace with line speed throughout the shift.
- Follow all health, safety, and hygiene protocols without shortcuts, including using protective equipment and adhering to SOPs at all times.
Requirements & Qualifications
- KCSE school leaver certificate or equivalent national qualification, demonstrating basic literacy, numeracy, and communication skills for accurate data recording and teamwork.
- At least one year of previous experience in a similar general worker, production assistant, or line support role in any industrial environment.
- Good hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity for assembly, control, and handling tasks that require precision.
- Agility and physical fitness to operate effectively in a demanding factory setting, including moving between workstations and navigating stairs safely.
- Preference for candidates with prior exposure to fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) manufacturing, though this is not mandatory.
- Basic computer literacy in Microsoft Excel and Word is preferred, as shift records and communication are handled digitally.
- A proactive attitude toward spotting problems early and a willingness to follow instructions exactly while also raising concerns when something seems wrong.
