Job Title: Registered Nurse – Clinical Care

Avenue Healthcare is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse to join our Clinical team. In this role, you will guide adult patients through their treatment journey, provide evidence-based care, and ensure the highest standards of safety and infection control. You will collaborate with consultants, supervise patient attendants, and uphold our commitment to financial viability and corporate governance.

Key Responsibilities

• Patient Care & Treatment: Work with the Clinical team to navigate patients through the treatment journey; directly address underlying medical conditions and deliver treatment as per the care plan.
• Protocol Adherence & Incident Reporting: Ensure all nursing protocols are administered according to set policies and guidelines; record and report all sentinel incidents or events within 24 hours using the provided tools.
• Monitoring & Assessment: Constantly monitor, assess, and chart a patient’s condition and response to treatment and medication, including physical and psycho‑social status; adjust treatment accordingly.
• Drug Administration & Management: Ensure proper and effective drug administration and management as per policy and procedures.
• Ward Rounds & Handover: Actively participate in ward rounds; receive handover reports from the outgoing nurse on shift; ensure all relevant consultants have explained procedures and obtained consent.
• Data & Records Management: Effectively manage patient data and records.
• Patient Safety: Ensure patients’ safety by following the six International Patient Safety Goals (IPSGs).
• Supervision: Supervise Patient Attendants according to their job descriptions.
• Infection Control: Maintain and enforce infection control standards per policy; observe infection control bundles (SSI, VAP, CAUTI, CLABSI) where applicable.
• Emergency Preparedness: Organise the emergency trolley for easy use during resuscitation; ensure drugs and supplies are well‑stocked; report damaged equipment promptly; keep and update the checklist as needed.
• Financial Viability: Ensure the unit is financially viable and demonstrates growth by managing costs and ensuring proper pre‑authorisation and documentation.
• Governance & Compliance: Adhere to Avenue Healthcare corporate governance policies – including preventing, detecting, and reporting any fraud or criminal activities – and implement audit recommendations.
• Policy Knowledge: Ensure adequate knowledge of and compliance with all Avenue Healthcare policies, procedures, and systems, especially those pertaining to medical services (e.g. admission & discharge, nurses’ reports, equipment and supplies).
• Professional Standards: Adhere to Government and respective professional standards of care and treatment of patients as guided by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
• Other Duties: Perform any other duty as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• Education: BScN or Diploma in Nursing (KRCHN). A Higher Diploma in Nursing is an added advantage.
• Licensing: A valid Nursing License from the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
• Certifications: Valid certification in BLS and ACLS.
• Experience: 2+ years of experience working in a busy environment.
• Core Competencies: Customer focus and results orientation; strong interpersonal, team‑playing, and communication skills; highly responsive, ethical, and responsible.
