Role Overview
This position is based within a hotel kitchen in Konza and centres on keeping the entire back-of-house environment consistently clean, organised, and compliant with strict hygiene rules. Day to day, you will work alongside chefs and other kitchen staff to ensure every surface, tool, and piece of equipment is ready for service, while also helping with basic food preparation and event setup when needed. Your contribution directly supports smooth kitchen operations, food safety, and the overall guest experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out regular cleaning and sanitation of all kitchen equipment, cookware, utensils, counters, and storage areas to meet hotel standards.
- Assist chefs and kitchen team members with routine preparation tasks and general support duties during food production and service periods.
- Manage waste disposal in line with hotel procedures, ensuring bins are emptied, segregated correctly, and kept in a hygienic condition.
- Handle crockery, glassware, cutlery, and kitchen tools with care to reduce damage, and promptly identify, record, and report any chipped or broken items.
- Maintain orderly storage of kitchen supplies and equipment, ensuring everything is returned to its proper place after cleaning or use.
- Prepare buffet displays, trolleys, and function equipment for banquets, events, and special catering requirements.
- Follow all health, safety, and hygiene policies, including reporting any maintenance faults, safety hazards, or equipment concerns without delay.
- Undertake additional cleaning or operational duties as directed by the supervisor or duty manager when required.
Requirements & Qualifications
- KCSE certificate or an equivalent academic qualification.
- At least one year of relevant work experience in a similar cleaning or kitchen support role.
- Prior exposure to a hotel, restaurant, or hospitality environment is an added advantage.
- Ability to work efficiently and stay organised during busy service periods.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including weekends and public holidays as scheduled.
- Strong personal standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety awareness.
- Dependable, disciplined, and proactive, with good attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills, along with a positive and professional attitude under pressure.
