Role Overview
As Tour Sales Consultant, you will manage the end-to-end selling process for holiday packages, safaris, and made-to-measure travel itineraries in a fast-paced Nairobi-based tourism business. You will work closely with the Sales Lead, converting enquiries into confirmed bookings, handling follow-ups and quotations, and ensuring clients receive a smooth, well-organised travel experience. This role directly contributes to the company’s revenue growth by building lasting relationships and turning first-time travellers into repeat customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond efficiently to incoming and outgoing travel enquiries, covering holiday packages, safaris, group tours and personalised routes, offering options that match client expectations.
- Consult customers on their travel aspirations, preferred destinations, group composition, timeframes and budget constraints before recommending suitable products.
- Prepare clear, detailed tour proposals and itineraries, including transport, accommodation, activities and meals, and issue accurate costings and booking confirmations.
- Proactively chase open quotations, incomplete enquiries and pending proposals with structured follow-ups to maximise conversion and close deals.
- Spot relevant upselling and cross-selling opportunities such as premium lodges, extra excursions, private transfers and travel insurance, ensuring the additions genuinely fit the client’s needs.
- Maintain accurate records of all client conversations, preferences, price quotations, bookings and revenue in the company’s CRM and booking system.
- Coordinate with the in-house operations team to hand over confirmed bookings smoothly and manage last-minute itinerary changes or client questions before departure.
- Stay current on flight routes, accommodation pricing, seasonal offers and popular tourism trends so that advice given to clients is timely and competitive.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A minimum of two years of hands-on sales experience in a travel agency, tour operation, hospitality business or another client-facing travel services role.
- A demonstrable history of reaching or exceeding sales targets and lead-conversion expectations in a previous position.
- Practical computer skills and daily familiarity with email, spreadsheet tools, CRM platforms and digital booking or reservation systems.
- Solid knowledge of regional tourism products, including safari parks, beach destinations, city breaks and cross-border itineraries within East Africa.
- Excellent persuasive communication, objection handling and negotiation capability, with a customer-first approach rather than a pushy sales style.
- Strong multitasking ability to manage simultaneous travel requests, varied quotations, client calls and administrative paperwork without losing accuracy.
- Professional written and verbal English; additional languages are an advantage for serving international holidaymakers.
What We Offer / Why Join
- A competitive base salary supplemented by sales commissions that reward confirmed bookings and strong monthly performance.
- The opportunity to work on-site in Nairobi with an expanding travel and tourism enterprise that values driven sales professionals.
- Direct exposure to the full sales cycle of a growing tour operations business, with support from a dedicated sales lead and cross-functional travel team.
