Role Overview
You will join Standard Investment Bank’s dedicated Islamic investment window, SIB Najah, where your focus is guiding Muslim clients and other ethical investors toward financial decisions that respect Shariah principles. Day to day, you will assess each client’s financial position, craft tailored investment plans using permissible instruments, and stay alert to market shifts so you can adjust portfolios and advice as circumstances change. This role matters because it directly strengthens the bank’s ability to serve a growing segment of clients who expect both financial performance and strict adherence to Islamic ethics.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out in-depth financial reviews with clients to clarify their income, assets, liabilities, goals, and tolerance for risk before recommending any course of action.
- Design individualised investment strategies that comply with Shariah rules, ensuring every recommendation avoids prohibited activities such as interest-bearing instruments, excessive uncertainty, and unethical industries.
- Select and combine appropriate Shariah-compliant products, including Sukuk, Islamic funds, permissible equities, and other approved financial tools, to build well-diversified portfolios.
- Track evolving developments in Islamic finance, regulatory changes, and market conditions so that your guidance remains current and reliable.
- Review client portfolios on a regular basis, rebalance them when necessary, and proactively flag any concerns or opportunities arising from market movements or changes in the client’s life.
- Explain the reasoning behind Shariah-compliant investing, including ethical and social dimensions, so clients feel confident and informed about their choices.
- Work closely with research and compliance teams to verify that every recommended product and strategy passes internal Shariah governance checks.
- Maintain strong, long-term client relationships through scheduled meetings, clear communication, and responsive follow-up, while also keeping precise records of all advice given and portfolio activity.
- Support business development by identifying prospective clients and promoting the bank’s Shariah-compliant advisory services to the wider community.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, Islamic banking, or a closely related discipline; a master’s degree or a recognised certification such as Certified Islamic Finance Executive gives you an edge.
- At least five years of professional experience as a financial advisor, with a demonstrable history of advising on Shariah-compliant investments rather than only conventional products.
- A thorough grasp of Islamic finance principles, including the rules governing permissible instruments, purification of income, and the role of Shariah supervisory boards.
- Strong analytical ability to interpret financial data, evaluate market trends, and turn those insights into clear, actionable recommendations for clients.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to explain complex Islamic finance concepts to clients from varying levels of financial knowledge.
- Hands-on proficiency with financial planning software, portfolio analytics tools, and investment research platforms.
- Professional integrity and ethical conduct that align with Islamic values and the expectations of a regulated investment advisory role.
- The ability to manage multiple client relationships at once, prioritise competing demands, and work both independently and collaboratively.
- Fluency in Somali or Swahili is an advantage because many clients come from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
What We Offer / Why Join
This is an opportunity to be part of a dedicated Islamic investment team within an established bank, where your expertise directly shapes how ethical investors grow and protect their wealth. You will work in a dynamic environment alongside research and compliance specialists, with room to influence the firm’s Shariah-compliant advisory offerings and build a meaningful career in a specialised and expanding segment of finance.
