Role Overview
As a Finance Assistant at FAWE Kenya, you will report directly to the Finance Officer and play a hands-on role in keeping the organization’s financial operations accurate, timely, and compliant. Your daily work will involve processing transactions, maintaining financial records, preparing donor and internal reports, and supporting audits. This position matters because it protects donor trust and ensures that FAWE Kenya can continue delivering its mission without financial interruptions or reporting delays.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing donor reports and other internal financial reports, ensuring they are complete and submitted on schedule.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including ledgers, journals, and supporting documentation.
- Process transactions and prepare payments in line with organizational policies and donor requirements.
- Post entries into the financial system, using QuickBooks and other accounting tools as required.
- Prepare reconciliations for bank accounts, cash, and other balance sheet items to confirm accuracy.
- Schedule short-term expenditures to support effective cash flow management and planning.
- Ensure timely remittance of staff payments and statutory deductions, avoiding penalties or delays.
- Provide support during internal and external audits, supplying requested information and helping to implement recommendations.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field from a recognized institution of higher learning.
- CPA Part 2 qualification.
- At least 2 years of progressive experience in a busy finance environment.
- Valid Certificate of Good Conduct issued within the last six months.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and practical working knowledge of QuickBooks.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated problem analysis and problem-solving abilities, with the highest level of integrity and professionalism.
- High level of confidentiality, attention to detail, flexibility, adaptability, and the capacity to work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational, planning, prioritization, and execution skills, with accountability for results and objectives.
- Enthusiastic, decisive, pragmatic, and hands-on approach with a sense of urgency and thoroughness.
