Organizational Mandate

We are seeking a technically skilled and operationally rigorous Farm Manager to lead our mixed-farming enterprise in Kilifi. The primary focus of this role is the seamless integration of livestock welfare and horticultural productivity. You will be responsible for the end-to-end management of the farm, from developing complex planting schedules and animal health programs to supervising a diverse workforce. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader who can balance the daily biological needs of the farm with the long-term goals of commercial sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Functional Responsibilities

Integrated Operations & Resource Management

  • Architect and implement comprehensive farm work plans, including precise planting schedules and optimized livestock feeding regimes.

  • Monitor all farm inputs (seeds, fertilizers, feed, fuel) and outputs to ensure maximum resource efficiency and minimal waste.

  • Oversee the daily logistics of the farm, ensuring that machinery, irrigation systems, and tools are utilized correctly and maintained.

  • Develop sustainable farming protocols that prioritize soil health, biodiversity, and efficient water conservation in the Kilifi climate.

Livestock & Veterinary Oversight

  • Supervise the complete welfare of animals (e.g., dairy cattle, goats, and poultry), ensuring strict adherence to nutrition and breeding standards.

  • Collaborate with veterinary professionals to execute preventive vaccination schedules and curative health programs.

  • Maintain meticulous livestock records, including detailed milk yields, vaccination history, and breeding cycles to drive herd improvement.

Crop Production & Horticulture

  • Lead the cultivation of horticultural crops, providing expert technical guidance on pest and disease control.

  • Manage irrigation cycles and soil fertility programs to ensure optimal yields of fruits and vegetables.

  • Coordinate all phases of the crop lifecycle, from initial soil preparation and fertilization to timely weeding and harvesting.

Leadership & Administration

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily tasks of farm workers, ensuring discipline, high productivity, and adherence to farm safety standards.

  • Maintain accurate financial and production records, including inventory logs and transaction histories for budget compliance.

  • Prepare regular performance reports for the owners/management, providing data-driven insights into farm progress and output trends.

Requirements & Competencies

Professional Background

  • Education: Diploma or Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Animal Science, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience managing a busy farm with both livestock and horticultural components.

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of animal production techniques, modern agronomy, and irrigation system management.

Essential Skills

  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and train a team of farm workers effectively.

  • Problem Solving: Ability to identify and address agricultural challenges (e.g., pest outbreaks or livestock health issues) promptly.

  • Communication: Clear interpersonal skills to liaise with staff, suppliers, and veterinary consultants.
