Role Overview
This position places you in charge of two working farms in Kisii, where you will balance the daily rhythms of a dairy herd with active crop and coffee production. Your main focus is to keep operations running smoothly across both sites—planning work schedules, managing staff, monitoring outputs, and stepping in early when problems arise. By maintaining strong records and practical oversight, you help ensure the farms stay productive, cost-efficient, and sustainable over the long term.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate all daily activities across the two farms, making sure tasks are completed on schedule and resources such as labour, feed, seed, fertiliser, and equipment are shared effectively.
- Prepare weekly and monthly work plans for dairy, crop, coffee, maintenance, and input needs, then adjust them as weather, herd health, or operational priorities change.
- Manage the dairy unit end to end: oversee feeding, milking hygiene, breeding, housing, and herd welfare while tracking milk yields, sales, calving, and health records.
- Supervise crop production from land preparation through planting, pest control, irrigation, harvesting, and post-harvest handling, including a dedicated focus on coffee plantation care.
- Lead and direct farm workers across both sites, assigning tasks, monitoring performance and attendance, and providing hands-on training in animal handling, crop care, equipment use, and safety.
- Keep accurate records for feed, veterinary supplies, chemicals, fuel, tools, and other inputs; monitor consumption to prevent waste, theft, or misuse.
- Arrange routine servicing of machinery, water systems, fencing, sheds, and other infrastructure, and flag maintenance needs well before they become breakdowns.
- Produce weekly and monthly performance reports covering production, costs, losses, and risks, and escalate serious issues like disease outbreaks or crop failures immediately.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Animal Science, Dairy Technology, Crop Production, or a closely related field.
- At least three years of practical farm management or supervisory experience, ideally spanning both dairy and crop operations.
- Proven ability to manage dairy cattle—nutrition, breeding, milking hygiene, and basic herd health—while maintaining accurate production and health records.
- Solid understanding of crop agronomy, pest and disease control, safe input application, harvesting, and post-harvest practices, along with familiarity in coffee farming.
- Experience leading and motivating farm staff, with strong communication and the ability to train workers in safe, productive methods.
- Good planning, budgeting, and reporting skills, plus the discipline to maintain clear, complete records.
- Comfort working hands-on in a farm environment, with high integrity, reliability, and the ability to make practical decisions independently.
