Role Overview
The Sales Representative will grow commercial demand for agricultural commodities and value-added by-products across Kenya, working from a Lavington base while spending most of the week in the field. Day to day, this means opening new distribution channels, running product sampling and trade demonstrations, and keeping existing vendors reordering. The position matters because the company's expansion in value-added agriculture depends on reliable, on-the-ground relationships with distributors, retailers, and institutional buyers rather than remote or desk-based selling.
Key Responsibilities
- Hunt for and sign up new distributors, retail vendors, institutional buyers, and farm-gate stockists through scheduled field visits and cold calls.
- Travel to different counties to test regional demand, present value-added product lines, and close sales orders.
- Put practical sales and distribution models into action to raise product turnover and widen the company's market footprint.
- Plan and run sampling exercises, trade demonstrations, exhibitions, and promotional campaigns that encourage product trials.
- Talk with prospective customers to collect product feedback, answer questions, and turn trial users into repeat accounts.
- Stay in touch with existing vendors and clients after the sale to encourage repeat orders and build long-term relationships.
- Record field intelligence on competitor pricing, market trends, customer preferences, and new sales opportunities, and submit weekly reports covering client visits, leads generated, orders closed, and regional market conditions.
- Work with supply chain and warehouse colleagues to keep order fulfillment, stock availability, and sample logistics running smoothly.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor's degree in agribusiness, agriculture, business administration, marketing, sales, or a related field.
- Prior experience in field sales, trade marketing, market research, or customer relationship management; exposure to agribusiness or agricultural inputs/outputs is an added advantage.
- Basic familiarity with Kenyan agricultural value chains, farming communities, and produce distribution networks.
- High readiness and flexibility to travel extensively across Kenya for business development.
- Strong verbal communication, negotiation, and interpersonal relationship-building skills for pitching and account engagement.
- Functional proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, plus comfort using mobile reporting platforms.
- Ability to work independently in the field while coordinating with office-based management and supply chain staff.
