Job Description

Role Overview

Sports Kenya is looking for an Electrical Engineer to take ownership of the electrical backbone that keeps its stadiums and surrounding facilities running — from the floodlights over the pitch and the CCTV and access-control systems at the gates, to the air-conditioning, refrigeration, solar plant, UPS backup and fire detection equipment inside. Day to day, this means moving between the drawing office, the switch rooms and the site itself: scheduling and carrying out maintenance, diagnosing faults that interrupt events or daily operations, and keeping a clear documentary trail of everything done. The position matters because power reliability at a sports venue is not a background concern — it directly affects crowd safety, security coverage, broadcast quality and whether fixtures can go ahead at all.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain electrical installations across offices, stores, sheds, residential estates, floodlighting masts, CCTV, access control, air-conditioning and refrigeration units, the solar power plant, UPS systems, fire alarm panels and the integrated security system, ensuring every one of them receives an adequate and stable power supply.
  • Prepare electrical drawings for stadium installations and act as custodian of the full drawing register, keeping records accurate and current as systems are modified.
  • Carry out site inspections to assess the condition of installations, verify workmanship and identify faults or risks before they develop into failures.
  • Implement both preventive maintenance schedules and major breakdown maintenance plans for the electrical division.
  • Prepare reports on equipment condition, breakdowns and the maintenance work carried out, and use those records to inform future planning.
  • Execute the ongoing maintenance and management of all electrical installations within the organisation's facilities.
  • Supply the technical information and operating guidance needed to keep electrical equipment and installations safe for staff and the public.
  • Conduct statutory inspections of electrical installations in Sports Kenya buildings and berths, and recommend them for certification where they meet the required standards.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
  • Professional membership with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including the software used for drawings, maintenance records and reporting.
  • Practical grounding in the inspection, fault-finding and upkeep of power distribution, lighting, solar, UPS, fire alarm, security and refrigeration systems in a large multi-building environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce and interpret electrical drawings and to maintain accurate technical documentation.
  • Strong reporting discipline and the judgement to identify safety-critical issues and escalate or resolve them promptly.

Applicants should submit an application letter along with a detailed CV, copies of academic and professional certificates, and the contact details of three referees. Candidates are also asked to state both their current and expected remuneration in the application letter. Applications may be sent by email to [email protected], or posted to the Chairman, Board of Directors, Sports Kenya, Private Bag, Kasarani, Nairobi.
